Stand in the humility of Christ! We are not to deal with the spiritual realm in any sense of pride. The Lord Himself has directly dealt with the devil and those “angels who did not keep their proper domain, but left their abode, He has reserved in everlasting chains under darkness for judgment of the great day” (Jude 6 NKJV).
Jude continued:
Yet in the same way these men, also by dreaming, defile the flesh, and reject authority, and revile angelic majesties. But Michael the archangel, when he disputed with the devil and argued about the body of Moses, did not dare pronounce against him a railing judgment, but said, “The Lord rebuke you!”
Jude 8–9 NASB
If Michael deferred to the Lord how much more must we be careful with our language and attitudes as it relates to these very weighty matters. We must have the Spirit of God leading us in all that we do. This is especially important as it relates to spiritual warfare for which we have been fitted to fight.
Finally, we need to consider the response of Jesus to His disciples as they returned from their assignment of engaging in the harvest. During their time of preaching the gospel of the Kingdom of God to people in their homes and in their cities, they encountered demonic strongholds that submitted and obeyed their word in Jesus name:
Then the seventy returned with joy, saying, “Lord, even the demons are subject to us in Your name.” And He said to them, “I saw Satan fall like lightning from heaven. Behold, I give you the authority to trample on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy, and nothing shall by any means hurt you.
Luke 10:17–19 NKJV
Jesus was there when Satan was thrown out of heaven. Jesus is now engaging Satan’s kingdom on earth. He is preparing and equipping His followers to deal with Satan and his kingdom of darkness against the nation’s right here on earth. Earth is the battle ground and the nations are the object: “Ask of Me, and I will give You the nations for Your inheritance, and the ends of the earth for Your possession” (Psalm 2:8 NKJV). The plan and purpose of Jesus continues today. The nations belong to Christ and must be possessed through the preaching of the Gospel of the Kingdom of God.
Jesus went on to remind His disciples not to get caught up in the power and authority they were given, “but rather rejoice because your names are written in heaven” (Luke 10:20b NKJV). Jesus rejoiced in the Spirit and said, “I thank You, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, that You have hidden these things from the wise and prudent and revealed them to babes. Even so, Father, for it seemed good in Your sight” (Luke 10:21 NKJV).
How does what Jesus commissioned in these disciples affect our lives today? It is now our turn to be engaged in bringing Satan’s kingdom under the dominion of Christ. It is our time to deal with the nations and bring them to the obedience of Christ. We, too, must be careful to remember that our names are written in heaven if we have yielded to the Lord and made Him Lord of all.
