We begin this chapter by establishing some important facts. The devil is not equal to God. The devil is not omnipresent. The devil is limited in his power and authority. We saw in Chapter six how evil manifested itself in the heart of Lucifer and how Lucifer deceived a third of Heaven’s angelic hosts. Chapter six dealt with how God judged Lucifer and the third of the angels who sided with him. The devil is driven by pride and open rebellion against the God of all creation. Jesus has come to judge the devil’s kingdom of darkness and to render him bound in being able to prevent God’s kingdom from possessing the earth and filling it with righteousness. Jesus accomplished the judgment of the devil as a man, through His sacrifice on the cross leading to His death, followed by His burial and descent into hell, but rising in victory over death and the grave in His resurrection.
How did Jesus deal with demons? In Jesus’ ministry, the power and authority He possessed become very clear through how Jesus dealt with demons. Before we plunge into this subject too deep, let’s look at Bible verses that show us exactly how Jesus dealt with demons when He was confronted by them in His earthly ministry. This chapter will not be comprehensive on the subject of demons, but I hope it will provide some understanding of how demons are part of the spiritual warfare in which we are engaged. This is important because you will encounter demonic activity as you allow the Lord to use you to set captives free from every oppressive work of the enemy.
